Gala | Royal Gala

Gala apples are harvested in September, but are ready for consumption until June. The more delicate apple variety is covered by a thin yellow to orange skin, which is highlighted with pink to red stripes. Their hue varies depending on the ripeness of the apple. Their dense flesh is creamy yellow and crisp, offering a slightly sweet taste and floral aroma. Gala’s, which are allowed to reach the peak of their sweetness on the tree, have a deeper red hue and a slightly sweeter flavour.

They are perfect for use in fruit salads, fruit salsas or as an addition to chutneys. Their sweet flavour mellows when cooked, so they are perfect for baked preparations when paired with more strongly flavoured apples such as Granny Smith, Arkansas Black, Pippin and Mutsu.
