Plums
Plums from the Prunus domestica family are native to Central Europe. The traditional varieties Bühler, Fellenberg and House plum are well-known. The Cacak varieties ripen in August. These were bred in Cacak/Serbia and are widely used in production in Germany, but also in Eastern Europe.
Newer varieties from the German breeding programme of the Geisenheim Research Station and the University of Hohenheim are the tasty varieties Katinka, Hanita, Top, Topper, Jojo, Elena and Presenta. Plums from the Prunus japonica family are mainly grown in southern Europe, but also in South Africa and South America. In the meantime, plums are available all year round. They are large-fruited and firm.
