Elstar

Elstar is a bicoloured apple with a high degree of sweetness and a balanced acidity. The tree reaches its full glory at fruit ripeness in September to October. It is particularly popular because of its balanced sweetness. It also has a good shelf life and should have a good crispness.

Ripe fruits can be recognised by the fact that they can be easily twisted off the branch. The apples fully develop their delicious aroma some time after harvesting. Nevertheless, they are ready for consumption immediately. Although the Elstar was bred in Holland in 1955 at the Institute for Horticultural Plant Breeding in Wageningen, it took until 1972 before it was entered in the stud book.
